Germany’s Withdrawal Button Law & What You Can Do on EzyCourse

Effective from June 19 2026, a new German law is introduced to protect the rights of consumers. If you sell digital products or online courses to customers in Germany, consumers are generally entitled to a 14-day withdrawal period.

However, this law provides an exception for digital content that is delivered immediately. By obtaining the customer's express consent before purchase, you can inform them that they will receive immediate access and acknowledge that they lose their statutory 14-day right of withdrawal.

EzyCourse lets you add a required custom checkbox to your checkout page for this purpose.

What is the "Withdrawal Button" Law?

When a consumer buys products or services online, they legally have 14 days to change their mind, cancel the contract, and receive a full refund.

The German law mandates that if an online contract is subject to this 14-day right, the platform must provide a clear two-click "Withdrawal Button" (e.g., Vertrag widerrufen / "Cancel Contract") for the purpose of the consumer exercising their right.

The good news is that the “withdrawal button” is not needed for most of the digital products you can sell on EzyCourse. In addition, the 14-day right can be legally waived at checkout. If the right is waived correctly, you do not need to show them a withdrawal button.

What you can do on EzyCourse

EzyCourse allows you to add a required custom checkbox to your checkout page. Before completing the purchase, customers must check the box acknowledging the withdrawal notice.

This gives you a simple way to present the required disclosure before granting immediate access to your digital content.

Follow these steps to set up a required custom checkbox:

1. Go to Site Settings -> Checkout.

2. Scroll down to find the Custom Checkbox section.

3. Enable the setting & ensure you tick the “is required?” checkbox.

4. Add your withdrawal waiver text.

5. Save your changes.

Customers must accept the checkbox before they can complete their purchase.
