Automatically Redirect Users with EzyCourse Redirect URL

What is it and why you need it


Say goodbye to broken links and lost visitors — meet Redirect URL! The latest addition to EzyCourse that keeps your users on the right track every time.


Redirect URL is a simple way to control where your visitors land when they click on a specific link. Instead of letting them end up on a broken or outdated page, you can automatically send them to the correct destination.


Imagine you update the URL of a webinar page, but people are still clicking the old link from emails or social posts. With this feature, you can seamlessly guide them to a new external page.


It’s also effective for time-sensitive situations. Running a week-long campaign? You can set a temporary redirect to your promo page and turn it off when the offer ends.



How it works


Redirect URL works by letting you set rules for where a visitor should be sent when they enter a specific slug on your site. You simply define an incoming slug and connect it to a destination URL.


When creating a redirect, you can choose between two types. A 301 redirect is permanent and is best for SEO because it tells search engines the page has moved for good. A 302 redirect is temporary, which is useful for short-term promotions or events.


You can also edit your redirects anytime or toggle status on/off depending on your needs. If you no longer want a redirect, you can delete it, and the old slug will either load its original page or show a 404 error if the page doesn’t exist.


[Note: The destination URL must be different from the incoming slug. You can’t redirect a link back to itself or create a loop.]


Rules & Validation


To make sure your redirects work smoothly, keep these rules in mind:


• Slugs must be lowercase only (a-z, 0-9, and -).

• No trailing / in slugs.

• Destination must be a valid path or a full URL (e.g., /pricing or https://demo.com).

• Reserved system paths like /api, /login, /_next, /admin, /auth, /logout, /signup, /dashboard can’t be used.

How to get started using it


From your dashboard, navigate to Site Settings -> Redirect URL sub menu. This opens the page where you can add, manage, and delete redirects.

Click the Add Redirect URL button to create a new rule. Note that you need to add a custom domain before creating a redirect URL.

Enter the Incoming Slug from where the user will be redirected. Start with /, use lowercase letters, numbers, and dashes only (a–z, 0–9, -). When they hit this URL, they’ll redirect automatically. Note that the incoming slug doesn’t have to be a page on your website. It can be anything as you want.

Paste the full external URL in the ‘Destination URL field’. This is the page your visitors will be redirected to.


[Note: The Destination URL cannot same as the incoming slug, must be a different domain than your school.]

Choose the Redirect Type and pick one between: 301 - Permanent Redirect and 302 - Temporary Redirect. Note that a 301 redirect is for permanent URL changes, signaling to browsers and search engines that a page has moved for good and to transfer all SEO authority to the new location. In contrast, a 302 redirect is for temporary URL changes, indicating a short-term move and preventing search engines from transferring the original page's ranking signals.

Once you’re done, click the Create button and the redirect URL rule will start to work immediately.

Test your redirect rule by opening a new/private browser tab and visiting the incoming URL.

You should land on the destination URL you’ve set. If not, please double-check the incoming slug format, destination URL, and its active status.

Also, if you want, you can edit, delete, and toggle the status of the Redirect URLs.


[Note: When you change a '301 permanent redirect' from active to inactive, it may take about 7–8 minutes for the change to take effect.]
